Chantôme
This 12th-century chapel was built by monks who settled at the priory to revive the concept of Christ’s desert retreat. By the 17th century, the priory comprised the prior’s house, a barn, a stable and farmland. Today, only the prior’s residence and the chapel remain. (Not open to visitors.)
Close to the church stands a fountain dedicated to Saint Sylvain. On the Sunday before Ascension Day, a pilgrimage through the village was traditionally held to seek protection against the mal violet—an old local term referring to convulsions and nervous disorders.
