On slightly acidic soil, the chestnut tree grows well. Here, in the past, the chestnut — the “bread tree” — replaced wheat, and its wood was shipped to Cognac to make barrels.

Since 1986, the village has come alive every autumn for a festive, sporting, and cultural event organized by the Chestnut Festival Committee, with support from the Eguzon Town Hall.

This Festival restores all its nobility to this wonderful fruit: peeled, blanched, roasted, sweet, savoury… the chestnut comes in every flavour!

In a joyful, festive atmosphere, 260 volunteers wearing chestnut‑coloured berets go above and beyond to welcome visitors with good humour.
